We offer a simple and practical classification for a clear understanding of our role in prayer and lean how we can pray always: i) Active Prayer during Prayer; ii) Active Prayer outside of Formal Prayer; iii) Passive Prayer during Prayer; iv) Passive Prayer outside of Formal Prayer. This classification is again not to be taken as a watertight compartment, one level separate from the other, with absolute laws. It is only a help to pray always without any limits.

"What is prayer"

A SOWER WENT OUT TO SOW,

DHYANAVANA PUBLICATIONS, BANGALORE 2012, pp. xii + 356  Author: Rudolf V. D'Souza OCD Price: Rs. 200

The title of Father D’Souza’s volume with homilies for liturgical year C, A Sower Went Out To Sow, is taken from Jesus’ parable of the sower. His previous collection of homilies for liturgical year B, The Mustard Seed, was very well received, as these thought provoking homilies should likewise be. With his readable and friendly style and his use of striking examples, Father D’Souza is like the sower in Jesus’ parable. He wants the word of God to grow in his readers’ hearts, striving to overcome the many different obstacles in their way. Attuned to the “new methods” of the New Evangelization, the author engages his audience, so that they will bear abundant spiritual fruit.  In this collection, the writer offers his personal reflections based on his twenty-five years of pastoral experience and his meditation, in the great Carmelite tradition of spirituality, on the word of God. Father D’Souza wants us to open our minds and our wills, our thoughts and our sentiments to the richness of the word as presented in the lectionary for year C of the Church’s liturgical cycle. They can be profitably used by everyone preparing for Mass, and especially by priests and deacons charged with bringing God’s word into the soil of everyday life. It is my prayer that this volume will be of a great spiritual help to all those who wish to ponder God’s holy word and put it into practice in their lives.  + J. Michael Miller, C.S.B. Archbishop of Vancouver, Canada

 AND IT YIELDED A HUNDREDFOLD

Dr. Rudolf V. D’Souza OCD, Homilies Year A,

Dhyanavana Publications, Bangalore 2013, pp. 362, Price Rs. 200.

“In the Liturgical Year A in the Catholic Church’s lectionary of Scripture readings for Mass, the Gospel passage most every Sunday is taken from St. Matthew. In the New Testament we meet St. Matthew only indirectly through the Gospel that bears his name. Matthew’s Gospel is one of the longest books in the New Testament and has exercised great influence in Christian life over the centuries. It has even been called the most important book ever written. Fr. Rudolf has already published Homilies for Cycle B and C and now with this publication the Cycle becomes complete. Though there are a number of books published to assist Catholic Preachers, the compendium of Fr. Rudolf is one of its kind, a treasure to be stored in the book shelf of every preacher.”: Rev. Dr. Archibald Gonsalves, OCD, President: IPCI; Provincial: Karnataka Goa Province

“Fr. Rudolf is the author of 27 publications (books, articles, DVDs and CDs). Now I learn that he has completed a Trilogy of Homilies on the three year cycle of liturgy. The first volume was published in 2011 for Year B titled “The Mustard Seed”, the second volume published last year for Year C titled “A Sower Went Out to Sow” and the next one that has come out for the Year A is ‘And it Yielded A Hundredfold”: Bishop Bosco Penha, Em. Aux. Bishop, Archdiocese of Bombay.
